I remember my father and I standing at the edge of the sand dunes and watching the beautiful waves of the Atlantic gently make their way on shore. It was 1979, I was about five years old, my dad took my hand and told me we were going to see something special today. I was scared and excited. As the moon began to cover the sun, the ocean never looked so alive. That’s my only memory of a solar eclipse.  My family was camping down in Myrtle Beach that beautiful day. It’s a memory that I will never forget.

Over the years, I have made camping in Myrtle Beach a family tradition. The campgrounds have meticulously evolved over time. There is just about something to do everywhere you look. You’ll find campsites by the ocean, near the pool, nestled in southern pines, a stone’s throw from the lake, or in a good old fashioned shady spot to pitch your tent. They have water features to keep you cool, walking trails to keep you healthy, kid friendly activities, adult friendly quiet places, and all served with a sincere southern smile. You can rent an air-conditioned cabin or state of the art RV. You can bring your sleeping bags and lay out under the stars or pull a pop up camper cozy for two.  Best part of your experience is when you make your reservation, the friendly staffs can help you decide what works best for you.

The time has come to make new memories as the total solar eclipse returns to the Carolina sky. I’m fortunate enough to bring my children and grandchildren to witness this historic event. I’m really blessed that I will have my mom by my side as we honor my father and the memories he gave us all. Maybe it’s time you take advantage of all the fantastic opportunities that can only be provided by camping in Myrtle Beach. What better way to create lifelong memories with the people you hold so special in your life. It’s time to let this world full of instant gratification, deadlines, contracts, long workdays, and apps for everything under the sun (no pun intended) to get blocked out. It’s Mother Nature’s turn to sooth your soul while you experience a momentous moment in time.
